PRESS CONFERENCE by KangarooCourt was an open to the public press conference that was given in the breakfast room of a hotel in Nafpaktosin front of the local television channel LEPANTO, from which it was also broadcasted.
The presence of the channel was essential and necessary condition for the realisation of the performance as well as for its reception from the general public.
The group adopted the form of a press conference to announce an imaginary theatrical play.
The performance commenced as a formal press conference using its canonical forms (space, language, movement, clothing, presence of Media),which however in the duration of the piece was deconstructed with the addition of other theatrical and non-theatrical elements (settings, costumes, lighting, video). A normal press conference which progressively acquired different degrees of representation in order to resemble or to become in the end a performance in itself. The announcement of the event and the event itself here become identical.
The alteration of the pre-existant form of a press conference seeks to undermine its established role or the conventions that define it as anestablishment of prestige and reliability. The exaggeration or the confusion that can result from the inability to single out the imaginary or thehypothetical work from its announcement, has as final aim to trouble and question the form of press conference as canonical or legitimate form ofcommunication and marketing.
