Duration: approx. 5 hours1 singer (melodos),
5 places/institutions and 5 typewriters
5 texts (political anthem, religious hymn, anthem of a football team, rock song, advertisement) sang in 5 different tunes
5 symbols (horns of goat, oak wreath, frame, paper bag from department store, hat made from newspaper)- What is the public space?
– What are the institutions? An abstract concept or we ourselves?
– How does each institution use language and how bureaucracy?
– How do institutions manage the aestheticization of language, so that they practice power?Ina route through the urban web of the city of Thessaloniki, the members of KangarooCourt follow a predesignated course that links 5points/buildings of the city. In each of these points they perform 5 pre-planned interventions.
KangarooCourt and a soprano in a strange street act / melodrama. In the role of an orchestra and with the use of classic typewriters they redact afragmentary written text (referent to each one of the 5 points / buildings – political, religious, athletic, rock song, advertisement).
Afterwards the singer sings the texts that are delivered to her in known and irrelevant with the texts melodies. (e.g. “the hymn of love of” Ap.Pavlos in the melody of ‘I will survive’).
An effort to aestheticize the language of typewriters restoring it again in its oral nature.
Each oral utterance is the ‘logos’ of power, says “MelodramaThes” or else Salve Regina Mater Misericordiae.
